Mighty joins Chicago's City Bureau in its public newsroom
In a piece published this June, City Bureau and Chicago Public Radio WBEZ revealed the vast disparity in dollars lent to white, Black and Latinx neighborhoods in Chicago. From 2012 to 2018, 68.1% of money loaned for home purchases went to majority white areas, compared to 8.1% and 8.7% for majority Black and Latinx communities, respectively.
For the city’s top ten lenders, that gap is even bigger.
Mighty joined City Bureau in its public newsroom to talk about where people can put their money if they want to bank with banks that invest in Black and Brown communities, and the impact of each individual and organization doing so.
Below is the video from the event. And here is the event summary — 5 Things to Know When Choosing A Bank Based on Values — from the City Bureau blog.
